O&P Community Urges OIG Scrutiny of Physician Owned Distributors

Concerns expressed  by HHS Inspector General, Daniel Levinson, about the conflicts of interest physicians encounter when prescribing implanted medical devices furnished by a related entity also apply to physician owned distributors offering O&P services and devices concludes AOPA and other O&P Alliance members.  The Alliance members signed a letter sent to Mr. Levinson pointing out how care could be compromised and these self referrals “open the door to overutilization, potentially suspect medical judgment, unfair competition and increased costs to the Medicare program and its beneficiaries.”Click here to access the alliance letter sent to Mr. Levinson.
