MWB-1 Exploring the Latest in Elevated Vacuum Applications
Sponsor: Ohio Willow Wood

Abstract:
Workshop attendees will learn how to create a comfortable, secure suspension for lower-limb amputees using Ohio Willow Wood's LimbLogic™ VS - the only fully-integrated, remote-controlled vacuum suspension system on the market today. An overview of features, benefits, and system operation will be given, along with an examination of clinical research, patient outcome data, and real world clinical applications.  Significant time will be devoted to using LimbLogic™ VS in transfemoral applications. The course delves into the ability to design sockets with lower trim lines than is possible in standard transfemoral socket design, resulting in substantially increased patient comfort and range of motion.

Absract: For experienced practitioners who want in-depth information on successful bracing methods for the most challenging patients.  This course includes a brief review of biomechanical principles, patient manipulation techniques and the support/control available through bracing systems.  There will be a focus on casting techniques, brace features, optimization and design modifications for patients exhibiting severe pronation, severe supination, unstable/uncorrectable foot positions, strong plantarflexion, crouching or hyperextension.  Participants are encouraged to interact with questions for an open troubleshooting discussion.

Bio:
Cindy E. Diener graduated from the University of Washington in 1992 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology. Choosing to further her education she was accepted into the Prosthetic and Orthotic Program at the UW and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1994.  After completing a 500-hour internship with Cascade Prosthetics & Orthotics, INc. she bacame a permanent employee of the clinic in 1994. Cindy is a Board-Certified Prosthetist Orthotist (CPO) through the American Board for Certification in Orthotics and Prosthetics and holds a Washington State license as a prosthetist/orthotist.  Cindy has developed a specialty in pediatrics and dynamic bracing and has become a recognized expert in the field. She is involved with technical support of DAFO braces and reviews videos from practitioners who request her expert opinion on bracing options.  Cindy's schedule fills wiht requests to present in-services and instruction around the country related to biomechanical assessment, dynamic bracing concepts and applications.

MWB-9 Therapeutic and Functional Orthotic Management for the Pediatric Lower Limb
Sponsor: Ultraflex Systems Inc.

Abstract: This workshop will focus on a comprehensive approach to managing the pediatric lower extremity with the combination of both therapeutic and functional bracing.  Learn how to maintain or increase ROM at rest with Ultraflex custom therapeutic orthoses and take advantage of the ROM during functional activities with the NEW pediatric Adjustable Dynamic Response (ADR) ankle component. The ADR component allows for improved biomechanics of the lower extremity during gait.  Be prepared to be challenged by this new technology in pediatric orthotic management and this comprehensive, combination approach.  You won't want to miss this exciting workshop!
