The passively functional upper-limb prosthesis,
designed and developed by Dr. Jean Pillet of Paris, has become a major
component of the comprehensive professional and social re-education
program for patients with partial or total amputation of the hand or
upper limb.
This prosthesis may provide the answer to the
psychological, social and functional needs of congenital or acquired
amputees. The prosthesis renders operational a functional stump
considered by the amputee too repulsive to expose by hiding it
continually in a pocket. The prosthesis can be used passively to hold
light objects due to its flexibility. And it allows digital
manipulation by lengthening a finger stump. Other specialties include
ears, fingers, hands and toes.
