AOPA Responds to the looming threat of Post Acute Care Bundling of O&P

We wanted to advise you regarding a relatively new, potentially very serious threat to O&P Medicare reimbursements, and actions AOPA is taking to move proactively to eliminate or markedly reduce this threat. Congress is in the process of considering a permanent “doc fix,” i.e., eliminating the so-called SGR, or sustainable growth rate formula which consistently triggers significant legally-mandated reductions in the Medicare physician fee schedule. Opportunities for Clinical O&P Research Support from AOPA

The American Orthotic & Prosthetic Association is proud to announce a Request for Pilot Grant Proposals in eight potential areas of Orthotic and Prosthetic (O&P) research including an open topic. O&P Again Marches on Congressional Funding Stage

Senate VA Committee Chairman Sanders is advancing legislation that, among other provisions, would, consistent with the priorities of a 3-year joint NCOPE and AOPA project, funded and staffed by AOPA, create competitive grants to institutions of higher education both for development of new O&P Masters programs, as well as expansion of existing O&P educational programs. These new grants have been included as Section 322 of S.1852, which is likely to be voted on quickly by the full Senate. MORE »

Congress Approves New Funding for O&P Outcomes Research Pushed by AOPA

During the current Congressional session, AOPA, through the hard work of its lobbyist Catriona Macdonald of Linchpin Associates, worked with Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) toward developing funding support for both: (1) new appropriated moneys for outcomes research in O&P (via S. 521) and (2) new appropriated moneys to support educational advances for new O&P Masters programs as well as increased funding for existing O&P programs (via S. 522). Adding to the excitement of the 2013 O&P World Congress, the Medicare Orthotics and Prosthetics Improvement Act of 2013 (H.R. 3112) was introduced by Rep. Glenn Thompson (R-PA) and Rep.
